Genetics - Building Blocks of the Working Line German Shephe

The Chromosomes, Genes and DNA inherited from the parents make up the Blueprint for creating what a working line German Shepherd puppy is and becomes. This Genetic Blueprint not only influences its physical characteristics but its mental and behavioral characteristics as well.

We chose our working line German Shepherds from Healthy pedigrees and bloodlines based on Genetically Determined qualities. Examples of these qualities include pronounced levels of Intelligence, Courage, Resilience, Drives, Perseverance and Strength of Mind. They also inherited a workable level of independence and curiosity that make them eager to learn and explore new thing. We expect these qualities to be inherited by their offspring.

GENETIC INFLUENCE: The degree of Courage and Mental Strength a dogs is born with can be augmented with proper socialization and training. It is notable however, that genetics as inherited from their parents has an influence as well. Typically, naturally brave and courageous dogs produce more brave and courageous dogs. Whereas fearful skittish dogs produce more fearful and skittish dogs.

Example: Trained protection and sport dogs typically display some degree of courage when attacking decoys wearing a bite sleeve or suit. However, under pressure during courage tests and real world situations many of these dogs and their offspring often fail to stand their ground in the face of danger despite their training. It appears evident that, genetically speaking they lack the necessary degree of courage when it's needed the most.
